Spent the entire day in here hiking. So incredible. First, I did it without food to highlight energy conservation, where it comes from and how it made it's way to you. To think about how much we actually need versus want, and what the true cost of that is.
Second, with only drinking the water from the creek to highlight the importance that water is life. That we need to protect clean water. Keep a watch out for a little video I’ll put together on this day, and this entire weekend of goodness I’ve embarked on.
If anyone knows West Fork, I think i almost made it to FSR 231, but needed to turn back for my ride back. (you must know that beyond the first narrows, mile 3 the next 11 there is NO TRAIL at all) so bloody epic. If you don’t connect with something greater, I don’t know what to say. Don’t get me wrong, I was prepared if shit hit the fan. But to go in and really rely upon the water being pure and clean, and to really have to be conscious of energy conservation, absolutely connects you to the importance we have here today. Just like upstream of that place I took water, it’s crucial that it’s clean there to be clean for me. Today is upstream of tomorrow. What we do, support, and choose today, in every aspect of life, is upstream of tomorrow.
“if you are a rock, stand up like a mountain” - Trevor Hall
On that note, My friend Karina Sandhu will be heading to Standing Rock spending Thanksgiving there in support of those standing like a mountain. Water is life. Life from the water. Elders they taught us.
A pivotal time in our lives, an issue like this allows the opportunity for learning and growth. An awareness into the future. Even as I plug my phone in to charge it, I'm plugging into a grid that uses coal mined from the Earth. This issue, these issues ask that we pump the brakes on the way we live, and think of what will be there tomorrow.
if you can, send some support to Karina as she'll bring it to the front lines ( www.standingrock.support ) If you cannot, then do like I did. Connect with what you're doing, supporting and choosing. Begin making a difference in your world, and let that ripple out from there.
We seriously have to be aware of what we are doing. Connect. Peace.
But right now, my feet and toes look like raisins :) and I will be very grateful and connected to the food I consume today, the sights, sounds, smells, sensations, and even the taste of the water that nourished me.
